The man likes to riddle. He guess', he bets, he compares his knowledge. And he likes to do this in public - as a candidate in quiz shows. Since the beginning of German television in the 50s quiz shows are an integral part of the program. TV host Heinz Mägerlein asked "Hätten Sie's gewußt?" (Would you have known it?). Robert Lembke wanted to know "Was bin ich?" (What am I?). Hans-Joachim Kulenkampff - charmer and Gentleman - chats with a sharp tongue in the show "Einer wird gewinnen" (One will win). And let us remember Wim Thoelke whispering with meaning "Risikoooooo!" in "Der große Preis" (The big price). The journey will bring us back the pictures and all the phrases which have already entered our everyday language. We follow the path of the television quiz show from the tranquil "Wirtschaftswunder" format of a good basic education to contests of amateur specialists. We look over the wall to quizshows in the GDR and see in the 70s in the West programs that help unite the family on the sofa.
